A recently completed home in Governors Club, built by our sister company, BOLD Construction, reflects the kind of thoughtful design and attention to detail that makes a house truly feel like home. With architectural design by Abbie Lee Roehm of Paces & Roehm Architecture and interior selections led by BOLD’s Andrea Enns, the project was a team effort from the ground up.

The site, like many in Governors Club, came with challenges. The rear of the lot drops nearly 25 feet, which required careful planning to make the most of the views and natural elevation. The team positioned the main living level high above grade, creating a sense of privacy and opening up treetop views from the back of the home. BOLD Construction is no stranger to this kind of terrain, and their experience building on complex lots across the neighborhood helped guide the approach.

Architecturally, the home features vaulted ceilings in the kitchen and primary suite, stained wood accents, custom fireplaces, and an auto courtyard that offers both function and curb appeal. Roehm noted that the primary suite wing—separate from the rest of the home and surrounded by trees—was one of her favorite parts of the plan. Another favorite was the custom coffee bar designed to fit the homeowner’s European espresso machine.

Inside, Andrea Enns worked closely with the homeowners to make sure each selection reflected their lifestyle. “I always begin by asking about their background, who will be living in the home, what furniture is coming with them, their likes, dislikes, even their favorite colors,” said Enns. “By the time we start choosing materials, the direction is already clear.”

The homeowners came with a few must-haves: real marble for counters and tile, rift sawn oak with a natural finish, real brass accents, and a fully equipped outdoor kitchen built around a large grill and Green Egg. The entry was designed with a cobblestone-style finish that brought in a European flair—one of several personal touches. Enns shared that many of these decisions were driven by the homeowner’s desire to create something beautiful for his wife.

Many of the selections in this home, including the rift sawn oak in a natural matte finish, honed marble surfaces, and custom closets, are options Enns sees frequently. She also pointed to architectural details like arches, wood beams, tall ceilings, and more detailed laundry rooms as popular requests. Other features such as sculleries, outdoor living areas, home gyms, and hobby rooms continue to come up in projects across the Chap

el Hill and Pittsboro area.

The relationship between architect and builder played an important role in the project’s success. “Working with BOLD is a constant conversation,” Roehm said. “We’re neighbors and collaborate often to make projects better for our clients.” That consistent communication made it easier to adapt, refine, and keep the original vision intact throughout the build.

Enns echoed the importance of teamwork. “When I walk through the home at the end, I love seeing the harmony and flow,” she said. “Every part of the house brings to mind the people who will live there and the moments we shared putting it all together.”

When the homeowners saw it finished, they loved it. And for everyone who worked on it, that’s the part that matters most.
