What is the history of Governors Club?

Governors Club was incorporated on February 9, 1989. The first 18 holes of the championship course were opened on September 5, 1990. Holes 19-27, nicknamed “The Mountain” were opened four years later, on September 22, 1994. The Grand Opening of the Clubhouse took place in May 1995, and the Fitness Center was completed in March 1997. The Members of the Club acquired the Club and its facilities from the developer on January 1, 1997.

Who Manages the Club?

An elected Board of Directors manages the business and affairs of the Club. The General Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operation and management of the Club and reports to the Board of Directors.

What is the membership cap?

Membership is capped at 780 memberships, of which Golf Memberships can reach a maximum of 525.

How is Residency Determined?

Resident status for dues-paying purposes has been determined geographically to include the following six North Carolina counties: Alamance, Chatham, Durham, Lee, Orange, and Wake. A member’s legal residence for tax and voting purposes is not taken into consideration when determining residency.

What facilities are offered?

The Club Facilities include the following:

  • Jack Nicklaus Designed Golf Course. While Governors Club provides its members with a wide variety of amenities, golf occupies center stage within the community. The 27-hole layout follows the contours of Edwards Mountain, skirting serene lakes and quiet woodlands and winding through the neighborhoods of Governors Club.
     

  • Golf Practice Facilities. To fine-tune your game, the Club features complete practice facilities including an expansive driving range, a chipping green, a practice bunker and three putting greens.
     

  • Clubhouse Facilities. Relax or participate in various social activities at our 40,000 square foot, full-service clubhouse. The clubhouse includes banquet and meeting space, a mixed grill restaurant, full-service bar, members? lounge and card room, golf pro shop, and ladies? and men?s locker rooms. The mixture of the clubhouse facilities and great activities helps develop the camaraderie that is the basis of a fine private club.
     

  • Tennis, Swim and Fitness Facilities. The tennis and swim facilities include 6 lighted hydro courts as well as two hard courts, a pro shop and snack bar with grill, an outdoor swimming pool, a children’s pool and playground, and an open-air pavilion. The fitness center includes an indoor pool, cardiovascular weight and aerobics rooms, shower facilities and an outdoor jogging path.

How are dues and fees established?

Dues and fees are set annually by the Board of Directors and are payable in advance on or before the first day of each month. The Board of Directors reserves the right to set the amount of dues to be payable by members in each class and category at a level it deems appropriate, provided that the dues of each category of membership must be reasonable in comparison to the playing rights of privileges granted.

Are guests welcome?

Guests of members are welcome to use the Club’s facilities and will be subject to applicable guest fees and charges. The Board of Directors, at its sole and absolute discretion, may limit the number of times a particular guest may use certain facilities, and may deny, withdraw, or revoke privileges at any time.
