On March 1st, 2022, United Way of North Carolina recognized 75 Spirit of North Carolina Award winners, representing 22 local United Ways.
Governors Club was one of the 75 recognized by the United Way of North Carolina with the Spirit of North Carolina Award! The Spirit of North Carolina Award offers United Ways in North Carolina communities an opportunity to honor organizations whose United Way campaigns exemplify the “spirit” of their community. Winners are selected by a team of United Way leaders from across the state. United Way of North Carolina leads the award nomination and judging process and presents the award annually.
The 2021 Governors Club campaign made history in North Carolina, raising $272,668 – the largest amount ever raised for United Way by a residential neighborhood in North Carolina.
The many GC volunteers that worked on the United Way campaign last year included: Helen Barnhardt, Pete & Linda Bradford, Jack & Caroline Breaks, Stan & Georgia Campbell, Tom & Patty Campbell, John & Pam Caruso, Nancy Davis, Annie Lewis Garda, Joan Greene, Tom Hunter, Mark Korell, Jane Mayberry, Laura Mendelson, Kim & John Rainey, Hector Rodriguez, Jim Sink, Stephanie Tindel, Jerry Wehmueller, Carol Weingarten and Karen Wilson.
