MunchiLove’s Next Chapter: Meet Eluent Coffee & Provisions
There’s a new name to know in Governors Village. MunchiLove’s café is now Eluent Coffee & Provisions, with the same owner, the same team, and the same address at 50221 Governors Drive in Chapel Hill.
The new name brings together two parts of owner Amanda’s life: her career in science and her love of coffee. While the café takes on its new identity, MunchiLove will continue at markets and events.
Where Science Meets Coffee
For years, Amanda worked in science while building a coffee company on the weekends. What once felt like separate paths eventually led to the same place.
Pronounced el-yoo-uhnt, an eluent is a liquid used in a laboratory to release material collected in a filter-like column. In Amanda’s work, that material was DNA. After the DNA was separated from other cell components and held in the column, the eluent helped wash it free so it could be collected.
Coffee brewing offers a familiar parallel: water flows through ground beans, drawing out their flavors and aromas to create the finished cup. For Amanda, the name connects a process she knew from years in the lab with the craft she brings to the café.
The Story Behind the Green and Gold
Eluent’s visual identity also draws from Amanda’s scientific background.
Seventeen years ago, she was running experiments, extracting DNA, and recording results in dark green laboratory notebooks with gold lettering and grid pages. Every result had to be documented precisely, an attention to detail she carried into her later work in automation engineering.
Those notebooks inspired Eluent’s green and gold colors. Paired with patent-inspired lettering, the design connects the café to the curiosity and precision that shaped Amanda’s career.
Coffee for the Curious
At its heart, Eluent is a neighborhood café built around great coffee and the pleasure of discovering something new. Carefully prepared espresso and thoughtfully sourced beans from independent roasters give guests plenty to explore, with a welcoming space to settle in and enjoy their cup.
Amanda’s curiosity extends to everything behind the coffee, from agriculture and chemistry to history and craftsmanship. Over time, she plans to share the stories behind the coffees, explore the science of brewing, and create opportunities to learn from people across different disciplines.
For Governors Club residents, it’s a nearby place to meet a friend, start the morning, or try something beyond the usual order.
