Looking to golf away from home this weekend? If you live in the North Carolina Triangle, RDU Airport can take you to all kinds of fun golf destinations! If you’re looking for a short golf getaway – or a long one – see where the airport can take you. We’ve outlined our favorites below, but you can view a full list here.
The Happiest City on Earth is best known for a certain mouse, but it’s also a window into one of the greatest golf states in the Union. With regular service offered by Delta, Frontier, Southwest, and Allegiant, flying to Orlando from Raleigh is easy.
The best golf in Orlando is arguably at Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill course, which gets its name from the famous golfer and sweet tea/lemonade enthusiast wintering there. The club houses an 18-hole PGA course and a 9-hole easier course, along with a spa and hotel. If you are swinging by the mouse’s house, the Waldorf Astoria is in his backyard, and comes complete with a gorgeous course. Designed by Rees Jones, the 18-hole course uses Florida’s marshy terrain to great – and challenging – effect.
That’s right: if you want to get a bit of Old World action, American offers a nonstop flight to London! Though Europe at large is a prime golfing destination, jolly old Greater London is home to a number of excellent courses.
Just 35 minutes from the heart of the city, Royal Blackheath Golf Club might be the oldest golf club in the world. Visitors can play on the 400+ year-old course Mondays through Fridays, and the club offers occasional networking and professional events. Head a bit further south and you can visit the fittingly named London Golf Club. The club’s two courses combine mythical Old World scenery with tournament quality design. Both are open Monday through Thursday.
If you can handle the heat, Phoenix’s Scottsdale influence has turned it from Wild West adventure town into a premier golf destination. You can fly there direct via Southwest.
On Native land you’ll find We-Ko-Pa, a club housing two excellent 18-hole courses. Both courses – called Cholla and Saguaro – use the rugged desert landscape for challenging contours and fiendish sand traps. Speaking of striking landscapes, you can find The Boulders in the Phoenix suburb of Carefree. While the two courses are certainly worthwhile, the real draw are the prehistoric rocks that watch over the course like guardians.
